Hawkesdale Wind Farm donates funding to the local P-12 college

Hawkesdale P-12 College celebrates its mid-year formal dance with the support of GPG Australia

Hawkesdale Wind Farm has provided funding to the Hawkesdale P-12 College to assist in carrying out its annual formal dance night, a small rural college with an enrolment of approximately 160 local students ranging in age from 5 to 18 years. Definitely a great night of elegance, dancing, fun and laughter for all of its students! Organising the night was a “Work Related Skills” assessment task for a group of students, who approached their roles with maturity and commitment to providing the best possible night for their fellow students. Each of them was assigned a role and set of tasks to complete, having to work together to show the positive outcomes that can be achieved through strong teamwork. Student tasks assigned included a team leader, sourcing funding, workplace health and safety and permits, graphics and design, budgeting, technology and engaging the entertainment, refreshments and decorations.

Our Community and Stakeholder Engagement Officer for the Hawkesdale Wind Farm, Debra Dumesny, was invited to take part in an assessment panel at the conclusion of the project. Each student presented their roles and how each person contributed to the team outcome. Another example of how GPG Australia is dedicated to supporting communities local to their projects through active involvement and commitment, building strong relationships and contributing to a significant positive impact. Helping to foster a sense of community is key to ensure sustainable development and mutual benefit.
GPG Australia Hosts Ryan Corner and Hawkesdale Wind Farm Community Open Days

GPG Australia Hosts Ryan Corner and Hawkesdale Wind Farm Community Open Days

GPG Australia was pleased to engage local residents who joined the events to learn more about both wind farms.

On the 7th and 8th of April 2021, GPG Australia hosted two community open day sessions to welcome community members interested in learning more about the Ryan Corner and Hawkesdale Wind Farms.

GPG Australia team members as well as representatives of the company’s main contractors and consultants provided the local community with the latest information about the projects and answered all questions about them.

Four tables were set up to address the key topics of interest for the local community including the status of the projects, planning, noise, transmission lines, use of local roads, and community benefits, etc.

The sessions were an excellent opportunity to introduce the members of the GPG Australia team who will oversee both projects. The engagement was a constructive forum to better understand community concerns as well as directly answer questions.

GPG has a long-term owner-vision and is committed to regularly engaging and delivering value to the local community through the implementation of a Community Engagement Plan (CEP).

Both projects are expected to generate considerable local employment opportunities during the construction phase and when the wind farms commence operations.

Naturgy signs long-term energy sales contract to build a 97 MW wind farm Hawkesdale Victoria, Australia

Naturgy signs long-term energy sales contract to build a 97 MW wind farm Hawkesdale Victoria, Australia

  • This deal increases GPG installed capacity in the country to over 700 MW.
  • Naturgy increases its presence in Australia, becoming the Top-2 independent wind energy producer in the country and confirming its commitment to renewables growth in Australia, through its Global Power Generation joint venture (GPG).
  • Hawkesdale is the fifth project developed by Naturgy in Australia and the second one under a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Global Power Generation (GPG), a joint venture of Naturgy Energy Group, SA (75%) and the Kuwait Investment Authority (25%), has been awarded the contract to build a 97 MW wind farm located at Hawkesdale in Victoria, approximately 270 km from Melbourne, Australia.

The contract awarded is a 15 years Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the energy equivalent to 97 MW capacity. Given the characteristics of the awarded contract and the conditions of the Australian market, one of the most attractive countries to invest in renewables, the project fully complies with the investment and profitability criteria required by Naturgy for value creation.

Naturgy Renewables in Australia

The Hawkesdale wind farm will be Naturgy’s fifth investment in Australia, through GPG. Including this project, Naturgy will reach a renewable capacity over 700 MW in the region, together with the Crookwell 2 wind farm (96 MW), currently in operation, Berrybank Stage-1 (180 MW), close to be operational, Berrybank Stage-2 (107 MW) and Ryan Corner (218 MW) both under development.

Naturgy has recently secured contracts for different renewable projects in Australia resulting in the development of a capacity greater than 400 MW, and increasing by more than 150% its current installed capacity in the country.  This means Naturgy will become one of the the Top-2 independent wind energy producers in Australia. The company also has a project pipeline of more than 600 MW in the Australia and aims to become one of the main independent renewable operators in the country in the next three years, reaching a total capacity of more than 1.3 GW.
